It’s National Youth Sports Week!
This year’s National Youth Sports Week is October 6- 11. Together with the National Council of Youth Sports, we celebrate the transformative power of youth sports. This week is dedicated to highlighting sports’ positive impact on young people, advocating for their importance, and providing valuable resources to strengthen youth sports programs. USA Cheer shares the vision of the transformative power of play and the collective responsibility of safeguarding youth.
Committed to promoting unity, growth, and celebration, USA Cheer and NCYS aim to spotlight the positive impact of youth sports, empower young athletes, and advocate for safe and inclusive sports environments throughout this week-long event. We extend a warm invitation to all who share our dedication to young athletes to join us in celebrating this occasion.
“The Power of 63”
The National Council on Youth Sports exists to:
- Promote youth sports participation everywhere
- Equip coaches, leagues, and families with tools for safety and success
- Celebrate the changemakers who keep athletes in the game
This week is a coordinated push toward national alignment, shared outcomes, and long-term growth. The number 63 isn’t random. It’s our North Star. The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services has set a national goal of 63% youth sports participation by 2030 through their Healthy People 2030 initiative. Currently, only 50.7% of youth participate in sports. We’re
bridging that gap, one activation at a time. Every NYSW activity directly supports this 63% mission:
The 63 Campaign Targets: 63M minutes • 6,300 coaches • 6,300 plans • 630 proclamations
Key Days:
Monday, Oct 6: National Coaches Day
Coaches aren’t just instructors. They’re role models and mentors. Recognizing them during National Coaches Day helps inspire future leaders and strengthen community programs. This day is your chance to thank them and inspire new leaders.
Saturday, Oct 11: International Day of the Girl
International Day of the Girl celebrates the power of girls in sports and highlights the work still needed to close participation gaps. It’s time to ensure every girl has the opportunity to play.

Coach Ready
Continuing education and knowledge is vital to a safe and fun program!
Coaches: Are you up to date with your concussion and heat illness training? Safety rules? Skill techniques?
Parents and Administrators: Is your coach a USA Cheer Coach member? That means they’ve taken concussion education, athlete protection training, and USA Cheer’s Safety & Risk Management Course to help minimize the risk of injury!
Safety First
Safety isn’t optional; it’s foundational. Let your athletes play fearlessly, and parents cheer confidently. Equip your team with Emergency Action Plans and lifesaving knowledge. If you haven’t already done so, enact your Emergency Action Plan including AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) awareness and training. NYCS has partnered with GoRescue to award seven (7) ZOLL AED 3 units, each with AED training, to youth sports organizations without an AED during National Youth Sports Week!
Proclamation Push
Local proclamations do more than make headlines. They drive funding, visibility, and long-term support for youth sports! See more and download sample proclamations in the NYSW Guide!
