USA Cheer joins other leading sport governing bodies to provide Concussion Education Certification for their athletes, coaches and officials.

DALLAS, TEXAS (May 26, 2021) β€” USA Cheer, the U.S. governing body for sport cheering and the sport of STUNT and TeachAids, an award-winning nonprofit social enterprise behind the CrashCourse concussion education technology, proudly announce a new partnership. They join other sports governing bodies such as USA Football, USA Artistic Swimming, USA Field Hockey, and US Speedskating to provide formal Certification for completion of the CrashCourse education programming.

TeachAids creates breakthrough technology to solve persistent problems in health education around the world. Their products are designed with input from a team of world-class academics, researchers, doctors, and athletes associated with leading organizations and institutions such as Stanford University, Harvard University and beyond. TeachAids has developed “CrashCourse,” a suite of interactive products focused on the prevention and treatment of concussions and related mental health issues. This education has been designed to teach athletes, parents, and coaches about concussions. CrashCourse products include scientific knowledge to help dispel myths and misconceptions about the concussion recovery process. They also serve as resources for athletic trainers, rehab specialists and physicians.

β€œAthlete safety is central to everything we do and it’s critical that participants in our sport and their parents and coaches understand what a concussion can look like and how to deal with it,” said USA Cheer Executive Director Lauri Harris. β€œWe’re thrilled to partner with TeachAids to promote effective concussion education for our members and athletes of all ages.”

The TeachAids partnership builds on USA Cheer’s longstanding commitment to athlete safety, with a focus on the importance of strength and conditioning, progression in training, and following safety guidelines. USA Cheer offers courses for coaches on safety regulations and has developed safety rules tailored to each age group and skill level. Starting today, the CrashCourse curriculum will be instituted for free, with certification, throughout USA Cheer’s programs nationwide and is available at https://usacheer.org/safety

β€œAs an athlete and a coach, having access to a resource like CrashCourse is so important,” said Kaitlynn Volmer, US National Team Athlete, OSU Athlete and Stillwater High Coach. β€œIt’s so great that USA Cheer and TeachAids have partnered to provide this training. It’s going to make a real difference for our entire cheer community and ensure we’re able to continue to provide a safe and healthy environment to train and compete.”

β€œCentral to our mission at USA Cheer is to promote safety and safety education for cheer in the United States,” said USA Cheer Director of Education and Programs Jim Lord. β€œUnderstanding the signs and symptoms of a concussion, and how to respond if a concussion has been sustained, is critically important for participants at every level. The approach that TeachAids has taken speaks directly to athletes, and we’re really pleased to be able to offer the CrashCourse content to our members.”

β€œWe are honored to work with USA Cheer to introduce CrashCourse concussion education into their programming. Their leadership to make their sport safer is an example for all,” says Dr. Piya Sorcar, Founder and CEO of TeachAids.
