Membership Frequently Asked Questions

Option 1: Check the public membership list here. This list is updated weekly.

Option 2: Log in to the member portal at usacheer.org/login. If your membership is current, you will see your Member ID card. If you see a popup window, it will show you which requirements are still needed in order to make your membership current.

The USA Cheer Membership portal is located at https://usacheer.org/login

That depends on the requirements you are trying to fulfill. Be sure to check with your school, district, state, or event producer to find out what membership requirements are in place. For example, some event producers may require all attending cheer coaches to have the Cheer Coach Membership while others may require one coach to have the Cheer Coach membership and all others to have at least the Professional membership.

What are the differences?

  • All memberships require the athlete protection course and concussion awareness.
  • The Professional, Youth Coach, Cheer Coach, STUNT Coach, and Dance Coach memberships all add a background screening.
  • The Junior Coach/Athlete is intended for those under the age of 18.
  • The Youth Coach, Cheer Coach and STUNT Coach memberships both add the requirement of a USA Cheer Safety & Risk Management Course.

You may find that you need to change your membership choice, for example from “Professional” to “Cheer Coach” because you have been hired as a team’s full-time coach and need the Safety & Risk Management course. To change your membership, log in to your account at https://usacheer.org/login, close any popup screens, and select “Upgrade/Change Membership” on the home screen. From there, select the membership you need and follow the steps. You will be asked to go through the agreements and waiver steps again. If there is an additional fee associated with the new membership, you will be required to pay the upgraded difference. If there is a lower membership fee for the new membership, you will be given a credit that can be used for future membership or course fees.

On the membership login page, there will be a link under the “Submit” button that reads Forgot User ID or password? (see below)  Click that link and follow the steps to retrieve either your username, password, or both. If you have created two membership accounts, you may need to follow the steps there to contact us.

Unfortunately, USA Cheer cannot accept a background check from another organization. Currently, there is significant duplication of efforts regarding background checks required by schools, churches, youth sports and employers in part because organizations are not permitted to share applicant’s background check reports with each other. In addition, different organizations use different criteria for their background checks. For example, your school would not accept your background check done through USA Cheer. USA Cheer membership standardizes the process for all USA Cheer members.

This background check is included with the Professional, Cheer Coach, and Dance membership so is no additional cost to the member.

The Safety & Risk Management Course is not included in the membership fee, but as a pending member, you will received $10 off of the course. The course is not included because many coaches have already completed the course on our site or at the NFHS Learn site. In addition, the membership fee is an annual fee, while the safety courses are good for either two or four years.

If you have already completed the safety course elsewhere, you can upload your certificate at no cost by selecting the “USA Cheer Safety Certificate of Completion UPLOAD” option. If you have not taken the course or find that your certificate has expired, you may complete the “USA Cheer Safety & Risk Management” course or youth coaches may complete the “Youth Cheerleading Safety & Risk Management” course.

Once you sign up, a popup window will guide you through the next steps to complete your membership. Select the “UPLOAD” option for the safety course and follow the steps to upload your certificate. You can find your existing certificate at https://usacheer.org/coachsearch.
